The US release date for the highly anticipated French film Coco Avant Chanel has finally been set. Fashionistas, mark your calendars for September 25th because you will not want to miss this fascinating story of Coco Chanel's rise to power in the fashion industry.

French actress, Audrey Tatou, from The Da Vinci Code, plays the legendary designer and her physical resemblance to Chanel is quite remarkable. Take a peek at the trailer. Although it's in French with no subtitles, it's quite compelling and beautiful.

This is sure to be a must-see film for a vintage fashionista!

VPOD: Shopping in Paris for Something to Wear

We celebrate America's birthday this weekend and that naturally makes one think of America's birthplace, Philadelphia. And any fashionistas visiting the City of Brotherly Love this summer may want to pop in to the Philadelphia Museum of Art to catch two complementary exhibits: Shopping in Paris: French Fashion 1850-1925 and Something to Wear: Fashion in Print 1850-1925.

Now, as you know, we tend to concentrate on contemporary vintage over here at Zuburbia. Yes, contemporary vintage--it's quite the oxymoron! But it just means that we focus on vintage clothing that, regardless of the decade, is still considered stylish, fashionable and wearable today...and that pretty much rules out the bustles and hoop skirts of the late 19th century.

But that doesn't mean we don't appreciate learning about this earlier fashion history. So we think we'd enjoy perusing the displayed books, periodicals, film clips and ephemera in these two exhibits. And we suspect we'd be ooh-ing and aah-ing over the nearly 25 rarely or never-before-seen garments, including designs by the House of Worth and Lanvin.

Yes, that would be a wonderful afternoon delight for a vintage fashionista!

More information available at Philadelphia Museum of Art.

VPOD: Sassy Sequins

The sequins we have adorning our clothes today have their history in Arabic coins known as sikkhas, and way back when it was customary to stitch these coins onto clothing to display the family wealth.

Today of course a gal doesn't need to be wealthy to grab a fab little sequined treat. And looking at the high sell-through rate on eBay, fashionistas are snatching up shiny sequined finds at a feverish rate.

Today's VPOD features a glamorous, glittering vintage sequin jacket that can top off everything from jeans to that knock-em-dead evening gown. The amethyst, emerald and gold tones combine in a stained-glass mosaic that sparkles with style.

Yes, it's a sassy sequin find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Chickdowntown.com.

VPOD: Come Sail Away

You may remember from your elementary school history that Magellan was the first person to circumnavigate the globe and it was quite the feat. He started his voyage with 280 men and five ships on September 1519 and arrived back in port almost three years later with only one ship and 18 crew members remaining.

Yes, we all remember Magellan but does anyone know the name of the first woman to circumnavigate the globe? That distinction belongs to Krystyna Chojnowska-Liskiewicz, who completed her journey in 1976 in only 401 days. Oh, and she did it solo!

Of course, not all of us have the drive for adventure and the bravery required for such daring-do. But if you don't see a personal yacht in your future, don't despair. You can still embrace the spirit of sailing with today's VPOD.

This darling 1970s vintage dress in navy and white has all the waves and sailboats--and style--a land-locked girl could ever want. Plus, at under $90, the price tag won't leave you seasick.

It's a whimsical find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Violetville Vintage.

VPOD: U is for Ungaro

Trina Turk launched her colorful fashion brand in 1995 and says there are no bad colors, just bad color combinations. And while so many women despair that they just don't know how to put colors together, I believe you instinctively know what colors look good on you and which colors flatter you most. It's all about trusting yourself more and worrying less.

Of course, you can always rely on the experts to help you out. Ease your suffering by choosing prints that pop by designers who know their way around color. For instance, today's VPOD features an ultra-colorful and ultra-fabulous 1980s vintage silk skirt by Ungaro. With its high waist, side pockets, four buttons and wicked print, simply add a tee or blouse in black or white and you'll be set to go.

It's a chic and colorful find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Vintage Couture.
